Heather Fink is a PhD candidate in Mathematics Education at the University of California, Berkeley. She has BA degrees in Economics and Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences from Northwestern University. In addition, she has a single-subject mathematics teaching credential from Mills College and earned National Board Certification for Teaching (early adolescence/mathematics).
Heather is dedicated to promoting educational equity through research and classroom instruction. Her research focuses on understanding how inequities are constructed through classroom interactions and how, at a micro-level, interactions shape the opportunities students have to engage in rich content and to build positive identities as thinkers, learners, and members of communities. Heather’s teaching experience includes co-instructing a math methods course for prospective elementary teachers at Berkeley; teaching as a graduate student instructor in a course on problem solving for prospective math and science teachers at Berkeley; and working for 11 years as a middle school math teacher and instructional coach in the San Francisco Bay area.
