In this offering for K-12 teacher leaders, we will broaden the idea of master scheduling to examine the way that inequity often seeps into the various structures, decisions, and programs that determine what, when, and with whom students engage in school activities. Teacher leaders will engage in an equity audit of their community in order to understand ways to reimagine scheduling decisions that lead to unintended outcomes; they will pinpoint hidden inequities, and then begin to address those findings. We will touch on various scheduling-related topics, including participating in a strong scheduling team, having hard conversations with stakeholders, and putting in place an iterative process to help ensure that scheduling decisions are strongly rooted in equitable outcomes for all students looking forward to future years.

Facilitator
Erin Schweng, Professional Learning Coordinator for 21CSLA Alameda Regional Academy, former High School Principal, Leadership Coach. A graduate of the GSE’s Leadership Support Program, Ms. Schweng worked in K-12 public education for 22 years as classroom teacher, instructional coach, as well as a district data and assessment department. Most recently, she spent six years as an administrator (Assistant Principal and Principal) of a very diverse comprehensive high school with 3100+ students and over 200 staff. As a high school leader, she supervised the school’s counseling cohort of eight academic counselors, as well as the entire scheduling process from beginning to end each year. Ms. Schweng is thus extensively familiar with course creation and approval processes, master scheduling, including scheduling academy structures within a larger school. In 2020, she joined the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Education as a Professional Development Coordinator and Leadership Coach where she designs and implements professional learning for teachers and leaders and coaches several leaders each year.

This offering is geared towards K-12 Teacher Leaders, Teachers on Special Assignment, Department or Grade Level Chairs who are interested in and involved in Master Scheduling.

- 1 CEU is available at an additional cost of $55.
