Tanya Harris is the Lead Trainer for the 21st Century California School Leadership Academy (21CSLA) Universal Transitional Kindergarten Initiative. She has more than 20 years of experience as a public school educator, including as a teacher, coach, site leader, and district administrator. She comes to 21CSLA from her post as a principal at one of the largest elementary schools in Alameda, California. She previously led the birth to third-grade initiative in Oakland Unified, managing the rollout of Transitional Kindergarten across the district. She also served as a site administrator for child development centers and state Pre-K’s in Oakland. In Alameda Unified School District (AUSD), she designed and supported quality special education programming based on inclusive practices and universal design for learning. She established AUSD’s first trauma informed K-2 learning program. Harris has a BA in psychology from Cal State Long Beach and an MA in Education and Administrative credential from UC Berkeley’s Principal Leadership Institute.
