Denise Saddler

Dr. Denise Saddler serves as the Interim Superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District, bringing more than four decades of institutional knowledge and leadership to the role. A career educator, Superintendent Saddler has served in nearly every capacity, including classroom teacher, special educator, union president, principal, assistant superintendent and executive leader for community engagement. Her leadership is defined by a deep-seated commitment to equity and a deep value in investing in people, communities and partnerships. Dr. Saddler holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Mills College and has consistently championed the belief that those closest to the work have the best ideas for solving challenges. At UC Berkeley, Dr. Saddler serves as a lecturer for the Leaders for Equity and Democracy doctoral program, where she teaches a course titled People and Personnel.
