$1.4 million grant from Ballmer Group aimed at improving early childhood education

The University of California, Berkeley School of Education (BSE), collaborating with researchers across the campus and at UCLA, will advise early childhood education leaders on expanding access to quality preschool education for L.A. families under a $1.4 million grant from Ballmer Group. Berkeley will train school principals, ease upward mobility for experienced early childhood teachers, and research how child-care and pre-K organizations reach and support younger children, as California continues to invest in early education.

Robert Reich to deliver keynote address at 2025 commencement

Reich is Professor of Public Policy Emeritus at the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley. He has served in three national administrations, including as secretary of labor under President Bill Clinton, for which Time Magazine named him one of the 10 most effective cabinet secretaries of the 20th century.

It takes two to OЯTHO

Can two people learn math together by acing an arcade game? It's a question being investigated through an interactive tabletop digital game called OЯTHO, where players pick up fundamentals of the Cartesian coordinate system as their secret sauce for entering the hallowed hall of fame. Developed by Professor Dor Abrahamson and two scientists at the Copernicus Science Centre (CSC) in Warsaw, Poland, Katarzyna Potęga vel Żabik and Ilona Iłowiecka‐Tańska, OЯTHO challenges players to collaboratively navigate a virtual ball through maze-like paths, with the objective of completing the course in the shortest time and with the fewest moves.

Online@BSE: Beyond Zoom to a new kind of immersive digital learning

Professor Glynda Hull has established a state-of-the-art, immersive virtual classroom at Berkeley Way West, among the first of its kind at a school of education. Called O@BSE, the immersive classroom offers innovative online courses to students and working professionals who might not have access to a Berkeley education. The program also integrates cutting-edge pedagogy and research in the design and study of online education.
