Many students and faculty at Berkeley School of Education will be attending the American Educational Research Association's 2025 Annual Meeting in Denver. It is the world's largest gathering of education researchers and a showcase for groundbreaking, innovative studies in an array of areas.
This year's theme is, "Research, Remedy, and Repair: Toward Just Education Renewal." Below are some highlights. This page will be updated as more news is announced. (Updated April 10, 2025)
Professor Janelle T. Scott, AERA President. Scott, who holds the Robert J. and Mary Catherine Birgeneau Distinguished Chair in Educational Disparities, is completing her one-year term at the conclusion of this year's annual meeting. Her President Address is Friday, April 25, 5:10 p.m. to 6:40 p.m. MDT, The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom 1ABC.
Distinguished Professor Kris D. Gutiérrez, Distinguished Contributions to Research in Education Award lecture. As the 2024 recipient of this award, Gutiérrez is invited to speak at this year's meeting. Title: “Mutual Constitution, Learning as Movement, and Developmental Ecologies.”
Associate Professor Cati V. de los Ríos, Early Career Award, Division G, Social Context of Education. This award recognizes an individual in the early stages of their career no later than 10 years after receipt of the doctoral degree.
BSE alum Maisha T. Winn PhD ‘03, AERA-president elect. Winn is the Excellence in Learning Graduate School of Education Professor at Stanford University. Her term as president begins at the conclusion of the 2025 annual meeting at the Closing Ceremony: Presidential Citation and Transition, on Sunday, April 27, 9:50 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. MDT, The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Mile High Ballroom 4AB.
Associate Professor Travis J. Bristol, Early Career Award lecture. As the 2024 recipient of this award, Bristol is invited to speak at this year's annual meeting. Title: “Diasporic (Dis)Connection: The School-Based Experiences of Teachers of African Descent Across the Americas.”
Doctoral student Yared Portillo, Emerging Scholar Award, Language and Social Processes SIG. The award is designed to support outstanding scholarship among doctoral students.
