Education Fieldwork

Education Fieldwork is a cornerstone of the undergraduate education programs at the Berkeley School of Education.

The goal of fieldwork is to help students connect what they are learning in their coursework with meaningful, hands-on experience in real educational settings. Through placements in schools, community organizations, and other learning environments, students have the opportunity to observe, assist, and contribute to the work of educators and education professionals. Students in our programs (Educational Sciences Majors and Education Minor students) must complete at least 3 units of fieldwork.

Fieldwork  opportunities are meant to develop UC Berkeley students as both practitioners and researchers by:

  •  Actively engaging with young people
  • Building authentic relationships while supporting learning and development
  • Applying course concepts in real-world settings, connecting theory to practice
  • Reflecting on their experiences through structured coursework

UC Berkeley students connect academic study with meaningful community work, allowing them to develop their skills while contributing to educational systems in and beyond traditional classrooms.
