Ozge Hacıfazlıoğlu

Dr. Özge Hacıfazlıoğlu is currently an adjunct professor in the Leadership Programs at the Berkeley School of Education. She serves as a leader scholar on PLI and LEAD (EdD) programs as well as PhD program in School Psychology and contributes as one of the members of communities of practice at UC Berkeley School of Education. She has recently served as a visiting professor at Berkeley School of Education. Prior to joining the BSE, Dr. Hacıfazlıoğlu worked in various academic leadership and faculty positions for 20 years. She served as a professor and a vice rector at Hasan Kalyoncu University; interim dean at Istanbul Kultur University and associate dean at Bahcesehir University in Türkiye.

She holds a doctorate in Educational Administration and pursued her post-doctorate education at Arizona State University. Dr. Hacıfazlıoğlu has always been one of the leaders to promote school faculty collaboration in her career. She has been involved in projects focusing on improving the lives of migrant children and their families in marginalized contexts in different parts of the world. Her research can be categorized under four headings: Research on Higher Education Leadership; Research in Teacher Education, Principal Preparation, and Communities of Practice; Research with Marginalized and Underrepresented Populations and Research on Doctoral Education. Her articles were published in Journal of Teacher Education; Teachers and Teaching: Theory and Practice; Early Child Development and Care and International Journal of Doctoral Studies. Her co-authored chapters were published in the following edited books: International Perspectives on Leadership in Higher Education Institutions; Teaching and Teacher Education in International Contexts: ISATT 40th Anniversary Yearbook; International Handbook of Teacher Education; Taboos and Totems in Education: Critical Reflection on Research in Teaching and Learning; Understanding Excessive Teacher and Faculty Entitlement: Digging at the Roots; Search and Research: Teacher Education for Contemporary Contexts; Advancement in Online Education: Exploring the Best Practices; Globalization and Standards: Teacher Education in Times of Change.

The international arena has long been a focus of Dr. Hacıfazlıoğlu’s commitment to applying her expertise and network connections in support of schools and students. She served as the Presidential International Visiting Scholar at Wheelock College in Boston. She also served as an Erasmus visiting scholar at Teacher Training and Educational Management Academy in Riga and University of Algarve in Faro, Portugal. She served as a visiting scholar at Leysin American School in Switzerland, where she is still an active researcher and a member of a community of practice for LASER (Leysin American School Educational Research). She also worked as a part time IB teacher at ENKA High School in Istanbul.

Dr. Hacıfazlıoğlu has served as the national representative of International Study Association of Teachers and Teaching (ISATT) from 2009-2017. She also served as the “outreach coordinator” on ISATT Executive Committee between 2017-2023. She also served as the Vice President for Turkish Green Crescent Society between 2021-2022.

Dr. Hacıfazlıoğlu has served as a member of the District English Learner Advisory Committee at Berkeley Unified School District, representing the ESL parents.
