The UC Berkeley School of Education has climbed to No. 6 in the nation in the 2025 Best Graduate Education Schools rankings released April 8 by U.S. News & World Report and placed 2nd in the World University rankings.

“The Berkeley School of Education has long been at the forefront of transformative work in education, and this year’s results reflect the progress and hard work of the entire BSE community and the school’s reputation as a leader in research, innovation, and community impact,” said Dean Michelle D. Young.

Gathering data from more than 267 education schools across the United States, the Best Graduate Schools rankings are designed to guide prospective students seeking to pursue advanced degrees across a wide range of disciplines. Among other contributing factors, the school was rated very high by educational professionals.

“Our ranking this year is a testament to our world class faculty and our deep commitment to equity, rigorous inquiry, and preparing the next generation of teachers, leaders and school psychologists,” Young said.

The Berkeley School of Education (BSE) also earned high marks in key specialty areas. It ranked No. 9 in Best Education Policy programs and No. 10 in Best Education Psychology programs.

“This recognition comes at a time when our work — preparing educational professionals, advancing research, and developing effective interventions — is more urgent than ever,” Young said.

“The well-being of our schools, communities, and democracy relies on the strength of our educational systems. At Berkeley, we remain focused on the future and are committed to deepening our impact through expanding access to high quality education, fostering innovative research, and preparing educators who center student learning and cultivate equity in their classrooms, schools, and communities. We look forward to continuing this important work across California and around the world.”
