Wesley Tang has over 30 years in education in diverse range of roles, primarily in urban school settings. He has served as a teacher, literacy coach, instructional reform facilitator, site administrator, and district office leader. Each role provided unique insights and reinforced his deep commitment to improving student outcomes, particularly for those who have been marginalized within the educational system.
In 2023, Wesley Tang successfully completed his doctoral program at East Carolina University (ECU). His participant action research, titled "Equity Warriors: Building Principal Capacity to Enact Culturally Responsive Leadership," reflects his unwavering dedication to equity and social justice. He believes in the transformative influence of culturally responsive leadership, which ignites a sense of hope and optimism in his mission to empower others to serve all students effectively. It's this transformative power that inspires and motivates his work.
As the Coaching Coordinator for the 21CSLA Bay Area Regional Academy (BARA), Dr. Tang supports accomplished sitting and former school leaders who serve as coaches in our leadership programs. These coaches are critical in guiding and impacting new school leaders as they embark on their leadership journeys. The work is deeply rooted in equity and social justice, aligning with the institution's equity statement: "Leaders for equity transform education to improve access, opportunity, and inclusion for students and adults, especially those who are systemically marginalized and historically underserved, so that they can thrive."
Wesley Tang is deeply committed to advancing the mission of creating equitable educational outcomes for underserved students. He collaborates closely with his BARA team and UC Berkeley Leadership Program partners to interrupt systemic and educational inequities in order to effect greater outcomes for our students.
