Eric Assan (He/Him) is a 1st year Master's degree student in the Policy, Politics, and Leadership cluster in the School of Education. He is also pursuing a graduate certificate in Applied Data Science. He is an awardee of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, a fully funded scholarship program for African students and the first Education student to be awarded this scholarship. Prior to joining the BSE, Eric received an MEd in Educational Management from Huzhou University, China in 2022 and graduated with a Bachelor's of Social Sciences Education at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana in 2018 where he majored in Geography and Mathematics.
Eric has taught Junior High School Science and Mathematics as well as Secondary School Geography and Mathematics.
Currently, Eric works a Graduate Student Instructor and serves as the student representative on the BSE Admissions and Fellowship committee helping with policy and procedures. Eric strives to be a transformative leader who is poised to drive change and innovation in his circle.
Before coming to Berkeley, Eric worked for the Institute for Education, University of Cape Coast, where he served both as an Administrative and Research Assistant in the Department of Assessment and Evaluation. He also holds a professional teaching license from the Ghana Education Service.
Eric is passionate about improving accessing to education and providing educational opportunities for low-income and underserved communities.
He mentors prospective students from Ghana, Nigeria and other parts of Africa and the world who are interested in pursuing graduate study in the United States under his mentorship program; SCHOLARSCENTERwithERICASSAN on his YouTube Channel (Eric Assan).
In his spare time, he loves hiking (his highest point is reaching the summit of the Grand Canyon in Arizona).
