Francis Estabillo

Francis is a graduate student in the Principal Leadership Institute at UC Berkeley School of Education. His academic interests include critical pedagogy, equity-focused learning and instruction, and educational leadership for social justice.

Francis earned his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, majoring in mathematics, from the University of Pangasinan, in the Philippines. He then pursued a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis on mathematics education, from the University of Texas at Arlington. Currently, he is working on his dissertation at the University of San Francisco School of Education, where he is conducting a meta-analysis on the effect of mastery learning on student academic achievement across STEM disciplines.

With over 20 years of experience in education, Francis has been teaching mathematics, both secondary and college education, in several school districts in California, Washington, and the Philippines. He currently works as a mathematics teacher at Mountain House High School in Mountain House, California. Prior to this position, he served in the United States Army as an active duty service member for five years under the 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC), Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Francis held various leadership positions, such as team leader and assistant logistics manager, at the inland cargo transfer company within the 593rd ESC to support vital cargo operations and expeditionary deployments of the United States Armed Forces.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Francis is the president of the United Federation of Filipino-American Educators (UNIFFIED), San Joaquin County Chapter, CA. UNIFFIED is a non-profit international organization that promotes excellence in teaching and provides community services in the Philippines, the United States, and other countries through projects and educational programs.
