Leangelo Acuna

Leangelo Acuna is a community-driven teacher leader with over a decade of experience in youth organizing and education spaces. His interests as an educator include bioethics, environmental sustainability, and geopolitical ethnic studies, as well as expanding organizational capacity for his school site. Leangelo hopes to grow in his work as a member of the 25th cohort of the Principal Leadership Institute at UC Berkeley's School of Education.

For the past six years, Leangelo has taught as an 8th Grade Science Teacher at Roosevelt Middle School in Oakland, CA, proudly the most culturally diverse middle school in OUSD. His current leadership roles include Grade-Level Co-Lead, Science Department Head, and Lead Facilitator for the Culture & Climate Team to strive for a joyful and impactful school community.

Previously, Leangelo worked as a Program Assistant for the Gates Millennium Scholars Program in Washington D.C. to support low-income Asian & Pacific Islander American students and has served on the Board of Directors for the East Coast Asian American Student Union (ECAASU), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Leangelo earned his BA in Biology and Environmental Science from the University of Virginia and holds a Master of Arts in Urban Education with a concentration in Policy & Administration from Loyola Marymount University.

Beyond his work in education, Leangelo enjoys wine tasting in Napa, exploring marine and mountainous National Parks, and trying new restaurants with innovative food and cocktails.
