Leadership Connection Rubric: Advancing Equity and Justice in Schools

As a key resource for the Principal Leadership Institute (PLI) and Leadership Support Program (LSP), the Leadership Connection Rubric (Second Edition) guides effective leadership preparation, induction, ongoing support, coaching, and supervision of school and district leaders. Since 2012, the Leadership Connection Rubric has been an invaluable resource for school leaders.

Leadership Programs is pleased to announce that a team led by PLI Director Soraya Sablo Sutton is developing the third edition of the Leadership Connection Rubric that seeks to better serve the needs of leaders given the current political climate.

Updates for the Third Edition

Rubric elements: 1. presence and attitude. 2. personal identity and relationships. 3. equity and advocacy. 4. curriculum and instruction. 5. organization and systems. 6. change and coherence. 7. continuous improvement.

A preview of the new Rubric elements

The seven updated rubric elements are essential building blocks of effective leadership. In the right combination, they support leaders at all levels to develop an individualized approach to their own practice. The elements are more completely explicated in the descriptors of practice (DoPs) and in the detailed indicators of practice (loPs).

Stay tuned for the finalized Leadership Connection Rubric, Third Edition, which will include a full glossary. Printed copies will be available for sale later in 2025.
