About the Bay Area Regional Academy
21CSLA (21st Century California Leadership Academy) is a statewide initiative to provide high-quality, no cost professional learning that enables school and systems leaders to create equitable systems of learning for California students.
The Bay Area Regional Academy (BARA) is led by the UC Berkeley School of Education Leadership Programs. We serve teacher leaders, site leaders, and systems leaders in 6 Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Solano. We design learning opportunities to meet the needs of leaders in this region.
We employ three primary approaches to leader professional development:
- Communities of Practice (CoP): Small, sustained, and role-alike professional learning cohorts grounded in leadership for equity and continuous improvement.
- Professional Learning: Larger, mixed-role groups with content based on localized needs that informs site-based problems of practice in equity leadership. These groups take place in a variety of formats, including leadership summits, year-long offerings, and technical assistance.
- Individualized Leadership Coaching: Intensive, highly individualized professional development that is rooted in principles of adult learning, driven by the needs and context of the leader, and focused on issues of equity.
