Amplifying Educator Voices: An Advocacy Writing Workshop Series

As education leaders, our voices are often expected to represent a collective—sharing the needs, hopes, and frustrations of those who are part of our school communities. As part of the Principal Leadership Institute’s 25th anniversary celebration, Leadership Programs and the Bay Area Writing Project are partnering to amplify the voices of education leaders with a unique offering.

In this two-Saturday series, we will experience guided writing, space for sharing our stories, and feedback on writing. The emphasis of this workshop series is on advocacy and how to extend the voices of education leaders within and beyond the local context. To this end, we will experiment with writing in several genres, in order to get us thinking about the audience and form we’d like to employ. This workshop series invites us to think about the following questions:

  • What does the broader public need to understand about this moment in education?
  • How are we centering students’ and educators’ wellness at this time? How are we centering our own wellness?
  • What are the dilemmas we are navigating as educators and leaders?
  • What are the stories of success and celebration that deserve sharing?
