GSE in US News top ten for School Psychology, Education Policy

The Graduate School of Education’s School Psychology Program is ranked #8 and Education Policy is ranked #9—both up a notch from last year—in the 2023 U.S. News & World Report rankings released today.

Three School Psychology alumni: Berkeley's unique program

Together they have nearly 150 years in the profession of school psychology. They each lead professional organizations with a combined membership of nearly 200,000 people worldwide. Their work and service has undoubtedly touched the lives of millions of school children around the globe.

And they—Professor Frank Worrell, Dr. Laurie Klose, and Professor Chryse “Sissy” Hatzichristou—also share the distinction of being alumni of Berkeley GSE’s School Psychology program.

Join us in celebrating these five GSE students, who have been awarded Outstanding GSI for the 2021-22 academic year by Berkeley's Graduate Division. The Graduate Student Instructors are nominated by their department or school and are selected for demonstrating overall effectiveness as an instructor; creating inclusive learning environments; and promoting critical thinking, among other attributes.

Report: Teachers, other school personnel, experience threats, harassment, violence during pandemic

School districts and policy makers must do more to support the mental health of educators and school personnel, many of whom are experiencing verbal harassment and threatening behaviors while on the job, according to a survey conducted by a task force of the American Psychological Association (APA).

Berkeley Public Policy Professor Rucker Johnson joins GSE

UC Berkeley Public Policy Professor Rucker C. Johnson, a labor economist who specializes in the economics of education, will join Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education as an affiliated professor—deepening the relationship between Berkeley’s School of Education and Goldman School of Public Policy.

Origin Story: The Quad

It started as a casual meet-up at a downtown Berkeley cafe. Professor Dor Abrahamson planned to do a little humble bragging with his latest tablet app, the Mathematics Imagery Trainer, designed for middle schoolers to learn ratio and proportions, which he'd rigged up to include beeping noises for sight-impaired students.

Within minutes of his conversation with Engineering PhD Josh, it was Professor Abrahamson who was humbled.
